A tribute to Carol

I begin on a sad note this week following the death of former Mayor of Bath Carol Paradise, who also served as a Councillor for Kingsmead and Twerton. Although initially we were on different sides of the Council, for 5 or 6 years I would pick her up in my car on the way to attend licencing sub-committee meetings, and we would regularly put the world to rights.

Seeing out a successful year

This week has seen a range of appointments and engagements.

On Monday I attended an event alongside experts in local government from a range of sectors where we discussed the Chancellor’s Autumn statement and the impact it will have on local businesses. It’s important that the Council continues to support local businesses during this challenging economic climate so it was good to hear some examples of best practice and share ideas.

Working together on safety and strategies

The week began with sadness in Bath after Henry Burke tragically lost his life after falling into the River Avon. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time. Bath & North East Somerset Council is part of the River Safety Group which will be convened to review existing safety measures in place.
