Shoppers and walkers can give their feet a rest thanks to a new bench installed as part of a Bath & North East Somerset Council grant scheme.

The bench has been installed on the green space next to the Bethel Chapel in St John’s Road Bath and was funded by the Ward Councillor Initiative Scheme

Councillor Peter Turner (Conservative, Abbey) secured money for the bench through the scheme which was set up to make funding available for one-off projects to improve and support the community.

He said: “This bench has been provided to give older residents a place where the can sit and take a break while they are making their way to and from the city centre and it is already proving very popular.”

Councillor Turner funded £1,200 and Councillor Lizzie Gladwyn (Conservative Abbey) topped this up with £250 from the fund, which covered the cost of the bench its installation and future maintenance.

One-off projects funded by the scheme, must have demonstrable community support to improve the social, economic or environmental wellbeing of a ward, as identified from within each councillors’ constituency.
