Welcome to the Road Safety Team's web pages. Thanks to many years of work by highway engineers and road safety professionals, the UK's roads are some of the safest in the world, and the roads in Bath & North East Somerset some of the safest in the UK. Nevertheless, over 400 people per year get injured in traffic collisions on the District's highways; most of these are down to human error, silly mistakes that are almost always avoidable.
The Road Safety Team seeks to educate and train all road users to share the roads safely, and to understand that different road users (pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, equestrians, car, bus and commercial vehicle drivers etc) all have different requirements. The Team's objectives include the continued reduction in the number of casualties on our roads, and an increased perception of safety to encourage more walking, and, especially, cycling throughout the District.
The Team works closely with neighbouring authorities, the emergency services, other Council departments, schools and colleges, driving instructors, and various road user representative groups, to ensure the correct road safety messages permeate throughout the District.
The Team offers many services to individuals and organisations, many of which are free. Please browse the following subject areas to find out more (please note these pages are currently being rebuilt, so some links currently do not work and some pages are blank)
